Recently, we were very lucky to be asked by Baker days to review one of their gorgeous letterbox cakes. Of course, being a cake lover that I am, I jumped at the chance. Also, they want to me to offer my readers the chance to win one for themselves, how generous!
Our review
Baker days offers cakes from a range of sizes but the letterbox cakes are 5 inches(12cm x 2.5cm) and will serve around 3-4 portions. The website states: This small, perfectly proportioned cake is the baby of our family. It's the thoughtful gift that will totally delight a loved one. This brilliant cake, as it's name suggests, can arrive through the post, just like a birthday card. Cakes by post, it's the future.
Baker days invited us to browse their website to see what cakes will would like to try. There are so many options to choose from like birthday cakes, anniversary cakes, to new baby celebration cakes. You can also buy some amazing cupcakes if that's what you prefer. What did really catch my eye, as it's the season, was their Easter cakes. After about fifteen minutes of trying to narrow down five choices to just one, I decided on a simple egg design with a photo of my eldest son in the middle. I loved the added bonus of being able to personalise the cake with a photo, I was very excited for Alfie to see it. We only had to wait a few days for our cake to arrive as they have a very impressive delivery time.
I was a little bit dubious about a cake that goes through the postage system and fits through your letterbox. I was expecting it to be tiny and a little rattled from the post office's rough handling but it is delivered in a cute little tin and wrapped well. The cake arrived in perfect condition and the smell coming from the box was just yummy. The most important test though was from my fussy little eaters Alfie and Thomas. I watched as they both ate a slice and they quickly gave the cake the big thumbs up. The cake was moist and just left you begging for more so definitely something we will buy for our next special occasion.
I also liked that we were given two little Easter eggs and a card to write in if we wanted to pass it on to someone. I really love these special little touches and think it just shows that the company takes pride in their orders. I really recommend you going to check out bakers days for their letterbox cakes as it such a great alternative to sending love ones cards or flowers.
