11/52: Mother's day

Mother's day for me is normally a difficult day to get through. I don't talk to my mum, she hasn't wanted to be in my life since I was 12 so I tend to get sad that I don't have a mum to treat like most people do.  I also find this day difficult because I'm a single mum of two young children so I have to carry on as usual with no breakfast in bed or a day off from housework. Today was different from previous Mothers days though as I felt no loneliness, no sadness that my own Mum wasn't around, and I wasn't bothered about being single. All that mattered to me was the fact I got to spend the day with my family.

I woke up this morning with the boys handing me two surprise envelopes, I had no idea they had made me something at school. Thomas made me a beautiful card with a poem inside. He had written it himself apparently, the words really touched me. Alfie also managed to make me tear up with his lovely card thanking me for all I do.

"Thank you for always being there and thank you for showing me you care, Thank you for all the things you do and for loving me the way you do. With love from Alfie".

"My Mum, My mummy is beautiful because she's got blue eyes like the bright blue sky. My mummy is lovely because she helps me when i'm scared. I love my mummy because she loves me lots and lots. My mummy is helpful because when I'm ill she helps me. Love from Thomas. xxxxx"

My sister kindly invited us round to her home for a sunday roast and some company on Mother's day. On arrival, I was greeted by some gorgeous flowers and wine which she had brought for the boys to give to me. I am extremely grateful to have a sister as kind hearted as she is. I didn't take any pictures of my family and our day together as I felt it was rude but I did grab some shots of the cousins playing together in the garden. I love how close they are and I really enjoy watching them play families which I captured in the photos below.

The mothering job by Marian N. Kehrley
I watched my Mom fill out an application.
I looked at the line that asks about past professions.
I thought to myself, that space is too small
To write down what she's been, to cover it all.
She was a nurse when I fell and scraped my knee.
She was a maid when I didn't wipe my feet.
She was a designer when my clothes didn't match.
She was a tailor when my pants needed a patch.
She was a teacher when I asked a question.
She was a priest when I had a confession.
She was a psychiatrist when I came home crying.
She was a preacher when I got caught lying.
She was a singer when she sung me to sleep.
She was a lifeguard when she said the water's too deep.
There are many more, yet the best one to me,
She was a best friend and mine forever she'll be.

Thats a lovely poem. And it sounds like you were treated on mothers day by those closet to you- how kind hearted of your sister and so cute what your boys did at school for you too. x

You really are a lovely mum, and knowing a bit about your background now it makes you even lovelier as you have broken the cycle. Lovely x
